They don't even deserve a star! We were first time renters, couldn't afford much. Our first walk through of the apartment and the freezer was full of food, it smelled like a dead animal died. The walls weren't repainted, smelled of smoke, carpet needs replaced. They at least replaced the fridge but other then that they NEVER come through with anything promised. Horrible experience at Sheridan Apartments. DONT RENT THERE! they're maintenance guys can't fix anything correctly and don't fix anything that is requested. You'll soon realize why the rent is so low. We have been patient renters not causing issues till they changed the locks (1 month 8 days before our lease was up) on us and never contacted us about it. Then made up excuses for it all. I wouldn't let my animals rent or a loved one live at these. And last but not lease Stropes are a bunch of Slumlords to get any penny they can from you.

I have been in rental house since September and they still haven't completed move in check list repairs after many , many calls... hard to deal with and get anything accomplished.

I am going to use my freedom of speech to speak out to others so hopefully they will listen and steer away. I myself have been shaken down on multiple occasions for money over "repairs" that I had nothing to do with, and that they refuse to provide documentation or proof that the error is on my part. When I challenge the office manager Danielle, simply asking for explanations or proof of why I may be charged for something, or even something as simple and human as asking how I should go about doing something on their property, she has resorted to rudeness, personal attacks, avoiding questions, condescending statements, accusations of unprovable (and untrue) criminal acts, and shouting. I have made my share of mistakes and am in no way saying I'm the perfect tenant. I've made quite a few dumb mistakes. I also have the common decency to either rightfully pay for those mistakes or throw my best efforts at fixing them myself. I'm simply saying that if you happen NOT to be that "perfect tenant" who is gonna sit by and let Stropes not only tell you how clean you can have your apartment, but also dictate what activities you can and cannot involve yourself in, then move on to another rental agency. People don't get me wrong, your landlord has a right to expect some cleanliness on the property. They obviously should expect that you won't be conducting any illegal activities on the property either. But what I've been through has gone above and beyond that entirely. I have heard from many people that I have the cleanest apartment out of all of them, yet I have been singled out before for trivial things that can easily be cleaned/fixed, simply because I work 2 jobs and sometimes I go a few days without maintaining things due to lack of time. Take caution with how clean you are. I like to consider myself above average with hygeine, but Stropes responses to my living space has shown that they probably think otherwise.

My experience with Stropes has been a very bitter one. They have appeared to ignore health codes regarding mold/mildew, crumbling/deteriorating plaster, and have personally attacked and harassed me when I got the city inspector involved in my rental property. There are laws against such harassment. People, know the law, know your rights, it's your best friend. Document everything. Take pictures, audio recordings, copies of police reports (if any), anything you can store for the future inevitable court date when you've finally had enough. They have told me personally that they hate evicting people but now have resorted to using scare tactics and false accusations to try to make me voluntarily move out (so it appears). Don't do it. If you are in the right, and you can prove it, use the Tazewell County Court system to make a stand against this tyranny. Their website claims that customers are more than just money to them, my experience lends me to believe the opposite. I wouldn't recommend Stropes Real Estate to my worst enemy. Hopefully this hits the ears of future tenants-to-be and might steer them away.

I am very aware of my tenant's rights.

Stropes Real Estate seemed like a good place to go to rent out a place for a low rent payment as I got back on my feet after some tough times in life. Regrettably, that was a huge mistake. I ignored all the people that warned me that they could be shady and provide awful service, and thought I would be able to prove them wrong and have a pleasant living experience. From day one it appeared to be very unprofessional. The guy who "showcases" the apartments didn't seem knowleageable, was very short with me, and wore a stained wife beater and army pants. They were very very slow to respond to my requests to have things fixed and have put anything and everything under a microscope to try to pass the blame of failed appliances, plumbing, lighting, etc on myself and make me pay for it. They can get away with this because most people that rent through them are low income and aren't aware of their tenants rights.

I am currently renting a apartment from Stropes. This is my first home on my own and was cheap. Not knowing any better and seeing how cheap it was I was all for it! I was told after signing my lease everything I said was wrong would be fixed before I moved in. It was not. I have now lived here for almost 3 months and I am still having g a daily battle with them to get things done! I've called the office on a daily bases and always get the "I'll get a hold of maintenance and call you back" I never hear back. I finally called maintenance myself and was told they would be here on Tuesday. They never showed. I have even spoke with the owner who assured me something would be done. Nothing. I am now finding cockroaches in my apartment which I am very sure r co.ing from the filthy empty apartment next to me.I will be giving them 24 hours to get the things fixed or I will be co tacting my lawyer. They have messed with the wrong person!
